Nyassaland Love Bird
Size—about twice that of the Canary.
Here we have one of the true Love Birds and a very popular species. It is probably the most desirable, although all the Love Bird family are very beautiful. The Nyassaland Love Bird derives its name from its habitat, namely, the Nyassaland Protectorate near the east coast of Central Africa.

Here at Bird Haven we breed quantities of them quite easily, although they are not as prolific breeders as the Shell Parakeet.

The Nyassalands mate in pairs and nest in a regular Parakeet box, but unlike the Parakeets all the Love Bird family build nests of sticks and coarse straw.
Male and female are alike in appearance except for the shape of the head, the male's head being broader.
They require the same general care as do the Shell Parakeets but should, however, have in addition to the Parakeet Mixture, a little Hemp and Sunflower seed in the seed cup. Cuttle Bone should be given and a plentiful supply of mineral Health Grit should be kept before them at all times. Here at Bird Haven we feed Haven Parakeet Mixture with a little Hemp and Sunflower seed, Cuttle Bone, fresh clean water, the usual green food and of course Haven Health Grit.

The Nyassalands make delightful pets as do all the Love Birds and are quite easily tamed when kept in a cage. Their brilliant plumage and dainty living habits make them very desirable. The bright green plumage of the body contrasted with the orange-red head and brilliant scarlet beak make them one of the outstanding specimens from the standpoint of beauty.
Choice adult birds are offered at $17 50 Single Males, each... $ 9.50
per pair Single Females, each. 10.00

Masked Love Bird
Size—about twice that of Canary.
The Masked is considered by many as the most beautiful of all the Love Bird family. They are about the same size as the Nyassalands and resemble them very closely in every way except in plumage. The prevailing color of the Masked is bright green on wings, under parts and tail. The neck and breast are a bright yellow, beak crimson, rump blue, forehead and cheeks jet black. Male and female are alike in appearance except that the male has the broadest head and is slightly less stocky in appearance.

The Masked are quite easily bred if you secure aviary bred, domesticated birds for your parent stock, otherwise your venture is apt to be a failure. The imported stock is invariably weak and sickly and hard to acclimate. This condition applies to practically all imported birds regardless of variety.

The food should be the same as for the Nyassaland. When breeding, the Masked Love Bird should be provided with the same housing and general care as the Shell Parakeet except that the Masked builds its nest of sticks and coarse straw and should have a plentiful supply of this nesting material at all times. They build large bulky nests, using the regular Parakeet Nest Box.
Masked Love Birds,$16.50 per pair $30.00 Single Males, each
I Females, each 20.00

Fischers Love Bird
Size—about 2 1/2 times that of Canary.
The Fischers is about one-fourth larger than the Nyassaland and Masked Love Birds. They are quite similar to the Nyassalands, having the same orange-red head and throat. The top of the head and forehead, however, are olive green—a very beautiful bird. The rump is dark blue and the tail feathers are tipped with light blue. Male and female are alike in appearance. They are easily bred in cage or aviary when one can obtain aviary-bred domesticated parent stock. Like the other Love Birds, the imported Fischers are very wild, having been trapped by the African Natives and shipped to America and are usually sickly and poorly feathered. Beware of imitators of Bird Haven who invariably ship you this type of bird. Remember this, there is no other breeder of birds in America of any consequence offering domesticated birds direct to the bird lover.

Food requirements are also the same as the Nyassaland.

per pair $20.00 Single Females, each 13.50
