Homes for the Birds
Bee Bee Parrot or Dwarf Parrot
Size—about 4 times that of Canary.
In the little Bee Bee we have the pet of all the Parrot and Love Bird family. While the Parakeets and Love Birds are most lovable toward their kind, the Bee Bee lavishes his affections on his human friends. They seem to enjoy the companionship of people and are by far the easiest of all Parrot type birds to tame. We tame some of them here
at Bird Haven so that they will sit on one's finger and crawl over one's person investigating various parts of his clothing, buttons and so forth. They make delightful pets for children when they are thus tamed as they never bite nor injure them. They soon learn to love the children when treated kindly.
We usually have these finger-tame little Parrots on hand but not always. However, anyone can tame our birds in a short while as all of our birds are semi-tame when we ship them. There is a vast difference in our domesticated Bee Bees and the wild, newly imported birds offered at a cheap price.
The Bee Bee is a native of Central America. Its food consists of Parakeet Mixture, Sunflower and Hemp seeds. The Bee Bee also requires a little ripe apple and banana. You cannot feed them too much of this fruit, as it agrees with them and is greatly enjoyed by them.
It is very difficult to breed the Bee Bee in captivity as they require a great deal of flight space and like seclusion. The male and female are alike in appearance but like the larger Parrot are usually kept singly and are happy and contented with human friends. They can be trained to talk but do not have the vocabulary of the larger Parrot. However, they make up for this deficiency by their charming and affectionate dispositions.
Bee Bees to be kept in good health should be taken out of the cage often and played with for exercise, otherwise they are apt to become too fat.
When ordering the finger-tame bird, state whether or not we may substitute a semi-tame one at the lower price if there are no finger-tame ones on hand when your order reaches us.
Semi-Tame Bee Bees, $10.00 each

Peach Face Love Bird
Size—about twice the size of Nyassaland.
The Peach Face Love Bird is a native of Africa and- is so named because of its lovely Peach Pink face. They are about twice the size of the Nyassaland or about half the size of a dove, being the largest of the Love Birds. Their plumage is dark parrot green with, a bright blue rump and rose-pink face with horn-colored beak. Our domesticated Peach Faces are always ready to go to nest any month in the year, although it is best not to breed any of the Love Birds in extremely cold weather, owing to the danger of the females becoming egg-bound. They should be supplied with plenty of sticks and coarse hay as they build very large nests. They lay from four to six eggs and require about twenty days for hatching.
Peach Faces like the Shell Parakeets remain true to each other for life. This is a great advantage to the aviarist as he can ken, various kinds of Love Birds and Parakeets in one aviary without the fear of them inter-breeding once they are mated up. However, they can be cross-bred as can practically all of the Love Bird family. The Love Bird crosses, unlike most hybrids are all fertile. The Peach Face requires the same food and care as the above species and like all Parakeets and Love Birds they bring their young up entirely on seed, thereby saving one the task of preparing special food during the breeding season.
Peach Face Love Birds, $35.00 Single Males, each $18.50
per pair Single Females, each 20.00
Cockatiel
Size—about that of a Dove.
The Cockatiel, sometimes called the Cockatillo, is wholly unlike the Love Bird or Parakeet families. It rightfully belongs to the Cockatoo family. In size it is about that of our wild dove. It is a very attractive bird and difficult to describe. Its plumage is a soft gray with a lemon-yellow face and dark orange cheeks. They have a beautiful yellow crest which they keep elevated most of the time, lowering it at will. The Cockatiel has a delightful song or whistle that no other Parakeet type bird possesses. The Cockatiel is the most peaceful of all the Parrot type birds and can safely be kept with any birds, even the smaller finches, without danger to them. This is what makes it so desirable to the bird lover with limited space. Cockatiels can be bred easily in an aviary but not in a cage as they must have flight room or they will not breed. They require the same care and food as do the Love Birds but should have a larger nest box. Their natural habitat is Australia.
Cockatiels, Single Males, each $15.00
per pair $30 00 Single Females, each 20.00
