Zebra Finch
Size—about 2/3 that of Canary.
The Zebra Finch is probably the most popular and charming of all the Finch family—he is also one of the most beautiful. They are natives of Australia where they are seen in small flocks in the wooded sections. The illustration is of the male who has a delightful song or whistle. The female is without the buff cheeks and red with white dots along each side. The Zebra Finch is the easiest of all the Finches to breed when our domesticated stock is used and are quite willing to go to nest any month in the year. This is true with practically all of the domesticated
Bird Haven bred Finches. However, we advise breeding them only from March to October. If allowed to breed during cold weather the female is apt to die with egg binding. However, if they can be kept at a fairly moderate temperature during the winter months they can be safely bred. The Zebra Finches require a small covered nest box for breeding and build their nest of nesting fibre, lining it with feathers or cotton. They lay from five to seven small white eggs. Male and female take turn about sitting on them and the eggs hatch in fourteen days. When the young birds leave the nest, start feeding hard boiled egg as well as their regular seed mixture. They will raise more young on the egg and seed than on seed alone.

Feed small Yellow Millet and plain Canary seed, also a small amount of large Yellow or White Millet, green food sparingly every other day and plenty of good Mineral Grit. Here at Bird Haven we feed Haven Health Grit and Haven Finch Mixture which not only contains the seeds mentioned above but white lettuce seed and other delicacies that Finches are fond of.

Silver Zebra Finch
The Silver Zebra Finch is an entirely new species originated
and propagated at Bird Haven. It was developed after carefully mating and line breeding the original Zebra Finch for several years. We have at last established a new strain, a delicate silver gray without the usual black markings, but retaining the beautiful red and buff colors of the original species. A few Silver Zebras are offered for the first time by us and cannot be obtained anywhere else. Limited quantity.

Silver Zebra Finches,
Size—about that of the Canary.
The Parrot Finch is so named because of its striking Parrot-like plumage. There are two types of the same bird—one called the TH-Colored Parrot Finch and the other the Red Head. The Tri-Colored has a bright green body with red tail and royal blue head. The Red Head type differs only in that it has a red head instead of the blue hemi Both varieties sing a little. The habitat of this bird is New Caledonia. The male and female are alike in appearance. Our domesticated Parrot Finches will breed for you in an aviary. They require the usual Finch Mixture, Cuttle Bone and green food as do the other Finches.

Orange Cheek Wax Bill
Size—about 2/3 that of Canary.
A sprightly little African Finch of fawn and gray with bright orange cheeks and crimson rump feathers. The beak is orange-red. The female is similar to the male except that the orange in her cheeks is not so bright as in the male. The male has a low pleasing song. They will breed in an aviary and should have the same care as the above species.
Orange Cheek Wax Bills,$10.00 Single Males, each $6.00
per pair Single Females, each 6.00

Fire Finch
Size—about 2/3 that of Canary.
Another African species so named on account of the male's bright red plumage. The female is a soft fawn color. This little Finch is almost an exact duplicate of the Cordon Bleu except for the color. For a good illustration of the Fire Finch turn to the color plate of the Cordon Bleu on page 14 and picture to yourself the same bird except that the blue on the Cordon Bleu is red on the Fire Finch and you have an almost perfect likeness. Food and care should be the same as for the Cordon Bleu.
